A letter from Grandpa David

Zoe,

I want you to know that we have the best of times when I come over to your house.
The first thing we do is go up the stairs. You usually stop half way up to see if you Momma is watching and if she is you smile and continue. When we get to the top of the stairs you always stop and check out the rooms. You look in Jack’s room and see all the play animals looking back then head into Josie’s room. You have a favorite toy behind the door. We have to close the door so you can play with the carousel. You are getting good at opening it up and then you look at me to wind it up. When I am done winding it I tell you to press the button and you do. All of a sudden your mouth drops open and and your eyes get big and you begin to dance in place. Its so cute to watch Zoe, you give your grandpa David a lot of joy doing that.

The next thing you do is head over to the chest of drawers and climb up and stand on your tip toes trying to get to a photo of Josie, Jack and yourself. It’s a favorite of yours.

I get it down for you and you look at it and smile and make conversation. I wish I knew what it is that you say. Some day soon you will let me in on it.
You then head over to the metal cabinets to pull things off it and drop them in the floor.
That is most fun for you. You do it and don’t even look, you just keep pulling things off.

When you are tired of playing you can open the door by yourself and then head to the staircase. I have a hard time keeping up to you on your way down now. You have made going down the stairs a slide and away you go. Its so fun to see you sliding down the stairs on your belly. You can beat me down the stairs now! I remember when you were first learning to go down and how tentative you were. Not any longer, you know no fear.

The little scooter your Grandma Jackie got you is a favorite with you now. It didn’t take you long to figure out how to make it go and now you are an expert. You learn things so quickly Zoe.
You like looking at books from your bookcase. You turn the pages on your own, which amazes me. I can hardly wait til your folks teach you to read. I know you will devour those books.

You enjoy looking out the big windows in the living room with me as we lay on the floor. You think you should be able to go right through the glass to the play station in the back yard. You stand up on the windows edge and pound on the glass, which is scary to me.
Another item you enjoy is putting the little balls into the holes on your tent and watching them go around and down onto the floor. We do that for a while til you get bored and want to do something else. Zoe, you remind me so much of your Mom when she was your age. Sometime I just stare at you and you look at me like you are saying, “What’s up old dude?” I have to laugh at that face Zoe. You are just so much fun to be with.

When its time for me to go home, you wave to me from your Mom’s arms and I know that you are saying, “See you later, old dude.” You are certainly special to me Zoe B.
